JET/PROPWASH Model |

The above figure shows an example calculation (section view) of vessel-induced jet/propeller wash. Contours indicate speed of currents generated.

The JET/PROPWASH model simulates vessel jet and propeller-induced velocities aft of marine vessels. The model results consist of the velocity field generated by a vessel having a specified propeller size, rotation rate, thrust, and other geometric input parameters. Model results are useful in determining if vessel maneuvering would disturb bottom sediments, affect marine resources such as eelgrass, or exert forces on piles or other in-water structures. The model has been extensively verified with field measurements using Acoustic Doppler Current meters.

The above figure shows an example of near-bottom current velocities (plan view) calculated due to vessel-induced jet/propeller wash on an 8H:1V bottom slope. Contours indicate speed of currents generated.
